Meet the Dallas Coaches!

Get to know Up and Running Again’s newest coaches, Mike and Rachel. Coaches of the men’s and women’s teams at the Union Gospel Mission Dallas, they, like all Up and Running Again coaches, volunteer their time to lead their teams through the training season and across the half marathon finish line. We are so grateful for all of our coaches!
We took a minute to ask Coach Mike and Coach Rachel a few “get to know you” questions. Here are their responses:
What is your favorite post run snack?
Coach Mike: Protein bars and water.
Coach Rachel: Zurvita protein shake and a few bananas.
Do you prefer a morning or an evening run?
Coach Mike: My favorite time to run is mornings. I am military (Navy). Because of my background, the morning times were always used for runs. It’s now what I am used to.
Coach Rachel: I always thought I was an evening runner up until Up and Running Again’s training program. This season, I have enjoyed watching the sunrise while running in the mornings. It is a great way to start the day!
What is your favorite thing about coaching an Up and Running Again team?
Coach Mike: My favorite thing about being a coach for URA is the comradery and the working together with the guys spiritually and physically – “Iron sharpening Iron” .
Coach Rachel: While driving the ladies to training in the mornings–we always play Trip Lee’s “Sweet Victory” song to get us in the mood! Being able to connect with the ladies outside the shelter walls has created a deeper bond, especially when we all have the same goal: to cross the finish line! That is truly a Sweet Victory!
THANK YOU Coach Mike and Coach Rachel for all you do!
